Mission & About 3D Printing

The Mission

To enrich the gaming experience of the community and foster the gaming spirit through providing quality gaming pieces, games, and experiences through online sales, conventions, and a future store front.

Eat the Meeples Gaming, manufactures 3D printed gaming upgrade pieces with the sole purpose of enhancing the gaming experience. The pieces are made from ABS, PLA, and other 3d printing materials and are not considered toys.

The goal is to reach like minded gamers who would like their experience to be enhanced through the upgrade of their collection and investment from mundane to different, custom, and personalized.

Eat the Meeples utilizes Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) printers. This is the normal 3d printing process that most people think of when they hear “3d printing”. Simply put, the model being made is laid down one layer at a time. After each layer has been finished, the printer mechanically lowers the print bed with the model the exact height of the next layer. This process is repeated until a print is complete!

Some of our printer specifics are as follows:

Maximum Print size: 12″x12″x11.8″ tall ( 304.8 mm x 304.8 mm x 299.7 mm tall)

Minimum Layer thickness: 0.01 mm

Printer materials capabilities: PLA/ ABS/ HIPS/ PC/ TPU/ TPE/ PETG/ ASA/ PP/ PVA/ Nylon/ Glass Fiber Infused/ Carbon Fiber Infused/ Metal Fill/ Wood Fill

Eat the Meeples also uses a resin printer. These printers extrude the model, one layer at a time from a vat of resin. Each layer is cured using a flash of UV light which instantly solidifies the resin. The printer then lifts the model from the vat the exact height of the next layer. Because the flash of light is able to cure an extremely thin layer of resin, the definition of the model is greatly improved.

While our equipment is able to print in many exotic materials such as carbon fiber, wood, and aluminum, Eat The Meeples primarily prints using Polylactic acid (PLA) and Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol (PETG) plastics through the FDM format.  Some of the basic characteristics of these plastics are listed below. The provided link will take you to the manufacturers safety data sheets.

PLA is considered a high stiffness and strength plastic which is biodegradable and environmentally friendly. It has a tensile strength of over 7000 psi. It is considered safe for many uses including skin contact. While it is considered safe for food storage we do not recommend the use of our products for food contact purposes. Please do not roll your cheetos down the dice towers.

PETG is a strong, heat resistant, high chemical resistance, water resistant and impact resistant material. These qualities make it an excellent choice for 3d printed items that will see a high amount of handling and use. PETG has a tensile strength of 7700 psi.
